Aquarium maintenance tips

A good aquarium maintenance will lead to a more natural aquatic environment and healthy fish, providing years of enjoyment to fans of this hobby

Guide routine maintenance of the aquarium.

Costly and time-consuming problems can be prevented through maintenance of approximately 30 to 60 minutes every two weeks.

The biggest factor is the stability aquarium maintenance. As long as everything works properly and your fish are healthy, there is no need for any major change, even if the pH - or the hardness seems to be slightly out of range; Sudden increases or decreases only main parameters of aquarium water will need immediate attention.

Water change.

A key part of aquarium maintenance are partial water exchanges, exchanges should be carried out strictly every two weeks. In most instances, 10 to 15% of the tank is sufficient. A good method is to replace the water extracted during vacuuming gravel that will eliminate uneaten foods and other residues that are deposited on the substrate.

It is highly recommended to check the parameters of the water so the water in the tank of water and reposition. Tap water (city water) containing either chlorine or chloramine. Chlorine disappears by keeping the tap water in a vessel for 24 hours; chloramines (chlorine + ammonia chloramine =) will not disappear so will require a aconditionator to remove chloramines will neutralize chlorine, in both cases, but ammonia will still be present in the latter. The ammonia is removed using nitrification bacteria present in the aquarium. This may take more than your fish can tolerate.

Other essential elements of water can be phosphates, iron and other heavy metals. To learn about the chemistry of tap water, call the local water company.

Reposition the water osmosis equipment should be checked regularly and should be considered as part of routine maintenance of the aquarium. Filtration membranes can be damaged or may require replacement before the expiry date.

Testing aquarium water
Water chemistry is not visible; It is therefore essential to check regularly. The best way to do this is to check water chemistry by changing the water tank.
Vital parameters are pH - the nitrates, nitrites, and carbonate hardness (salinity for marine tanks).
Stability is the main factor of pH. pH in the range of 6.5 - 7.5 is suitable for most species, but they can easily adjust out of range.

KH (carbonate hardness) is indicator of stability pH. It should be kept under strict observation when approaching 4.5 dH (hardness degrees) or 80 ppm. You have to take action if it drops further. View aconditionatori water.
A half teaspoon of baking soda on twenty-five gallons of water will rise by about 1 dH Kh (17.8 ppm).
Nitrite level should be undetectable at any time (except during cycling of). If you detect nitrites make sure you check and ammonia as well.
Nitrates should be kept below 10 ppm to 5 ppm in freshwater and marine and reef (preferably from 0 ppm).

Filtration aquarium

Proper function of the filter is essential. Filter media (floss, Algona, charcoal, sponge) should be changed at least once every four weeks. A popular large fishes may require shorter periods. Trapped particles will decay in filter elements such nocivese will return to the aquarium. The filter must be cleaned also once a month (not -bio clean environments) using the extracted water in the tank when changing the water.

Routine maintenance recommended

Daily
Make sure the equipment works properly.
Watch the fish during refilling. behavior changes are a good indicator of potential problems.

Weekly

Fish in inventory. If dead fish, smaller species can decompose quickly, resulting in ammonia and nitrites, and ultimately high levels of nitrates.
Every two weeks
Testing water for vital parameters: pH, carbonate hardness, nitrite and nitrate.
Change the 10 to 15% of water.
Vacuum the gravel.
Clean walls of the aquarium. Filter. Start from the bottom up and rinse often filtration media (cartridges) water extracted.

Monthly

Replace the filter media cartridges, thread, carbon and Algona.
Check tubing connections, skimmer and other parts airstones proper functioning.
Clean aquarium up to provide illumination.
Check expiration dates printed on the cans and know
